This brooch is hand carved from Tagua (Often referred to as 'Vegetable Ivory') by the Sosote Fair Trade Project in Ecuador.
The nuts are sliced, then the basic shape cut out. The Tagua is then dyed using azo free dyes to achieve the desired colour. Once dry, the final details are engraved into the surface revealing the natural colour of the nut beneath and the piece is given a final polish.
This fair trade jewellery is locally sourced using ethical materials.
