A beautiful brooch, hand carved from Tagua (which is often referred to as 'Vegetable Ivory') by the Sosote Fair Trade Project in Ecuador.
The nuts are sliced and then the basic shape is cut out. The Tagua is then dyed using azo free dyes to achieve the desired colour. Once dry, the final details are engraved into the surface revealing the natural colour of the nut beneath and the piece is given a final polish.
